A cookie is a small text file placed on your device (computer, phone, tablet) when you visit. It stores information about your browsing.
GeoTag uses as few tracking technologies as possible: no advertising cookies, no third-party analytics trackers (Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, etc.), no resale of data.
These items are essential to the operation of GeoTag and to providing the service you came for (a community-based geolocated mapping application). In accordance with Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act and the ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC), they do not require consent because they are strictly necessary to provide a service expressly requested by the user.

Technical note: the short-lived access token (15 min) is NOT a cookie; it is kept in memory on the application side and sent via the Authorization header on each API request. Google Maps Platform does not set a cookie on the GeoTag domain — it is an HTTPS API call that transmits your IP address to Google in order to display the map tiles.
GeoTag is by nature a mapping application. When you access GeoTag, you expressly request the geolocated map-visualization service. Google Maps is the technology that makes this service possible. It is therefore strictly necessary to provide the requested service, within the meaning of Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act and recital 66 of the ePrivacy Directive.
This classification is reinforced by the fact that Google Maps:

You can configure your browser to refuse cookies. Please note: blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent session persistence; you will have to log in again on each visit. Blocking Google Maps at the browser level (e.g. via an extension) will disable the map display.
If you wish to use GeoTag without loading Google Maps, you can install a blocking extension (such as uBlock Origin) and block the maps.googleapis.com domain. The other features of the application (tags, messages, groups, profiles) will remain accessible.
Processing by Google Maps Platform (transmission of your IP to Google when loading the map) is based on the legal basis of contract performance within the meaning of Article 6.1.b of the GDPR, the mapping service being the main feature you came to use on GeoTag.
